Rachel Summers - Phoenix
Alan Davis and Excalibur. To this day, I still smile and sigh when I say it. One of my favorite titles and artists combined. You see a lot of Phoenixes at conventions but not a lot of Rachels, especially in her Hound persona. This debuted at DragonCon 2007, and I revamped her in 2009 with a variation of the Hound tattoos that I liked better, as well as tightening up the overall look.
Ukulele is for Covers: “Knights of Cydonia” by Muse
Knights of Cydonia - Muse Cover
Another request a long time coming, this time the band being Muse. This was the first song of Muse’s I ever heard, and absolutely fell in love with it…mostly because the music video is one of the best videos ever made. Seriously, if you have not seen it, watch it. Amazing. So, this is the first song that came to mind when they come up…still I wrestled with it. They have some other songs it would be fun to make uke-y. Anyway on this track, I played by Banjolele, Ukulele, Melodica, Bass Guitar, Guitar, and Bongos. I also sang a few tracks of vocals…which are of questionable pitch. No auto-tune here! I hope it sounds ok.
Hope you like it, and you can email me your band request at castinwax at gmail dot com or twitter me @cracksh0t. And you can see all the Ukulele is for Covers covers here. Let me know what you think!
Ukulele is for Covers: “Jealous of My Boogie” by Ru Paul
Jealous of My Boogie - Ru Paul Cover
Back to doing a request, which I have not done in ages. I said so long as I had heard of the artist, I would take requests and figure out a song of theirs to do, so here we are at Ru Paul. I’m not a fan of dance-pop, generally, speaking, so I changed the song up, instead making it a gypsy-punk track a la Gogol Bordello. I am VERY pleased with the result—if you don’t know the original track, I recommend you spotify it to hear for much I changed it while keeping it the same song. I had to monkey with the chords in the chorus a bit, though…just a little, but I doubt many people would notice if I didn’t mention it.
Hope you like it, and you can email me your band request at castinwax at gmail dot com or twitter me @cracksh0t. And you can see all the Ukulele is for Covers covers here. Let me know what you think!

Here is the same ukulele cover of Bela Lugosi’s Dead, with bass, bongo, and shaker overdubbed. A fun little experiment.
